Hot wall hat furnace for protective atmosphere heat treatment up to 650 °C

Need to process large or heavy charges in a defined protective atmosphere without lowering them into a shaft furnace or modifying the hall floor?

The PZ hot wall hat furnace up to 650 °C is designed for heat treatment processes where bottom loading, floor-level manipulation, protective atmosphere and uniform temperature distribution are essential.

When is this furnace the right choice?
  • You need heat treatment up to 650 °C
  • You process charges under a defined protective atmosphere
  • You work with argon, nitrogen, forming gas or similar process gases
  • You need to load and manipulate the charge at floor level
  • You want to avoid structural modifications to the hall floor
  • You need circulation of the protective atmosphere for more uniform heating
The PZ furnace combines a gastight retort with a hat-type heating chamber. The charge remains accessible at floor level, while the furnace chamber is lifted electrically. This design is useful for large or heavy charges that require protective atmosphere processing and convenient handling.

Key features:

  • Maximum temperature 650 °C
  • Recommended operating range 300–600 °C
  • Bottom-loading hat furnace design
  • Gastight retort for defined protective atmosphere processing
  • Forced circulation of protective atmosphere
  • Water-cooled circulation fan
  • Electrically lifted chamber
  • Automatic intake of protective atmosphere for one gas type

Typical applications

The PZ furnace is suitable for heat treatment processes where the charge surface must be protected from oxidation or unwanted changes during heating.

  • Tempering
  • High-temperature tempering
  • Tempering of tool steels in a protective atmosphere
  • Tempering after vacuum hardening
  • Normalising annealing
  • Soft annealing
  • Annealing for stress relieving
  • Recrystallisation annealing
  • Artificial ageing
  • Sintering

Typical industries

  • Heat treatment shops
  • Tool manufacturing
  • Metal processing
  • Mechanical engineering
  • Automotive suppliers
  • Research and development

Main benefits

  • Floor-level loading of large or heavy charges
  • Defined protective atmosphere inside the retort
  • Reduced need for structural modifications to the hall floor
  • Uniform heating thanks to protective atmosphere circulation
  • Low protective gas consumption
Suitable for customers who need a hot wall hat furnace with protective atmosphere for large or heavy charges up to 650 °C.

For higher-temperature processes, consider the PZ hot wall hat furnace up to 850 °C.

Optional accessories available at additional cost

  • Ht200 controller (30 programmes with 25 steps each, USB interface)
  • Controlled forced overpressure cooling (indirect)
  • Optimisation of the temperature field to meet the DIN 17052-1 ΔT 15 °C standard in the internal usable space (in an empty furnace at Tmax), including a report from measuring (calibration of the measurement loop, grommet for TUS test is needed)
  • Measuring loop calibration (thermocouple + controller)
  • Grommet for TUS test measuring thermocouples
  • Charge thermocouple + Ht40 display
  • EIA-485 interface or LAN interface
  • HtMonit EV set (includes interface + software)
  • Digital three-channel temperature recorder
